Fábregas shakes San Siro as Arsenal topple the champions

The King is Dead Long Live the new Kings. Arsenal last night made one of their most famous victories in totally dominating AC Milan in the second leg of their second round clash at fortress San Siro. Milan had never lost previcously to English opposition and now Arsenal are in the driving seat.

FAMOUS NIGHT FOR THE GUNNERS AT THE SAN SIRO...!!!!!!!! ONE OF THE BEST IN OUR HISTORY.. A TRULY HISTORIC AND SYMBOLIC ONE...

The display was redolent of the 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Bernabéu two years ago, which spurred Arsenal towards the final. Here there was once more an authority in every area of the line-up. Kolo Touré was still absent, yet that went unnoticed while Philippe Senderos was in so decisive a mood. Though Fábregas dominated, Alexander Hleb demanded nearly as much admiration in his slightly more advanced role.

There was no resemblance to the mauling endured by Manchester United in last year's semi-final. Any prospect of an onslaught lay in a display by the visitors that teemed with confidence.

Arsène Wenger hailed a "perfectly executed performance" as Arsenal became the first English team to prevail against Milan at San Siro. The Frenchman rated the display on a par with his side's win at Real Madrid at the same stage two years ago. That success was gleaned en route to the Champions League final, with Wenger hopeful that feat can be replicated this time around.
